On Saturday, September 26, Beat the Streets Bay Area kicked off its fall From the Bay to the Mat clinic series at El Camino High School in South San Francisco. The free youth wrestling series, hosted each fall and spring, gives young athletes the opportunity to learn wrestling techniques, develop leadership skills, and train alongside elite wrestlers.

The two-hour clinic featured three Stanford University wrestlers: Collin Guffey, Zeno Moore, and Edwin Sierra.

Each clinician brought an impressive competitive background to the mat. Guffey, a sophomore, is a three-time California CIF State Placer, four-time CIF San Diego Section Divisional Champion, and two-time Masters Champion. Moore, a freshman, won individual titles at the 2026 National Prep Wrestling Championships and the prestigious Beast of the East. Sierra, also a freshman, is a two-time state finalist, four-time Fargo All-American, and four-time U.S. Open All-American.

About 50 young athletes participated in the clinic, including 40 high school wrestlers and 10 elementary-aged wrestlers. Throughout the afternoon, the Stanford wrestlers led athletes through a variety of techniques, including snap-downs, go-behinds, and takedowns. Athletes practiced a high-crotch setup transitioning into an outside single leg before moving into top-position techniques, including breakdowns from crab rides and two-on-ones into seatbelt tilts.

The clinic concluded with situational live wrestling from several unique starting positions designed to challenge athletes to think and react differently. In one scenario, wrestlers started side by side while controlling their partner’s near and far ankles. In another, they began back-to-back. Each situation encouraged athletes to react, adjust, and apply the techniques they had practiced throughout the clinic.

The day offered more than an opportunity to develop wrestling skills. Athletes from across Beat the Streets Bay Area programs had the chance to meet new teammates, build friendships, and strengthen the Bay Area wrestling community. To close out the clinic, the athletes and Stanford wrestlers came together for one final team break: “Stanford!”

It was a fitting end to an afternoon of learning, competition, and community on the mat.

The From the Bay to the Mat series continues Saturday, October 3, in Oakland. The free clinic is open to youth ages 5–18 and begins at 2:00 p.m.
